ammonium chloride soluble in water

💧 Solubility of Ammonium Chloride in Water

  • At 25 °C (room temperature): ~37 g per 100 mL of water
  • Solubility increases with temperature.
    • Example: ~77 g per 100 mL at 100 °C

When dissolved in water:

It dissociates completely into ammonium ions and chloride ions, making it a strong electrolyte.

🌡️ Effect on Solution

  • The solution is slightly acidic (pH ~5.5) due to hydrolysis of the NH₄⁺ ion

🧪 Applications of Its Solubility

  • Buffer solutions (especially with ammonia)
  • Fertilizers
  • Electrolytes in dry cell batteries
  • Cooling mixtures (with water and ice)
  • Laboratory reagent for preparing solutions
